The residents of Accra and its environs are currently experiencing some power outages, the exact causes of which is not known.
It is no secret that for the past few months, the residents of Accra and its environs have been experiencing what others may describe as “dumsor in disguise”. the planned outages are such that one phase of a particular neighborhood could have light whereas the other half would be in darkness. This has led to a public outcry of which the authorities are yet to respond.
The exact causes of these so-called planned power outages are not yet known, but the devastating damage it seems to be causing is an eye sore. Most small-scale businesses are struggling to break even whilst some households and shops such as cold stores are resorting to the purchasing of generators which comes with its own “wahala” -for instance, the high cost of fuel and the annoying noise it leaves in its wake.
According to residents of Franco Estates-Agya herbal- a suburb of ACP kwabenya, it appears their neighborhood has been a target by the authorities since their power is constantly cut-off mostly at nights. Speaking with one resident who wishes to remain anonymous, he vehemently pleaded with the stakeholders involved to address the issue, he lamented that, the recent surge in temperatures is making the whole situation alarming and that he barely sleeps at knight due to the heat, he said this is thus affecting his work schedules. He nevertheless beseeched that the authorities do the needful to curb the situation.
So, one would ask, is “dumsor” returning? and is this situation peculiar to other regions or is it only here in Accra? I guess we will never know, as one would say “it’s a question for the gods” to answer.
